Bio
Ms. Powers is a word artist – singer, actor, writer, teacher.
A native of Los Angeles, California, Ms. Powers attended UCLA graduating with a BA degree in English Literature/minor in theatre, and an MA from Cal-State Los Angeles.
She moved to New York City to pursue her passion, theatre. She has appeared on Broadway, in regional theatre, concerts and cabaret touring the US and Canada, as well as choral work at the New York Philharmonic and multiple New York City venues. Recently Ms. Powers performed an evening of humorous songs about aging with her musical partner David Lahm at the Triad Theater in NYC.
For several years, Ms. Powers worked with Katharine Hepburn eventually becoming her public liaison and assisting her on several TV films. She was significantly involved in the publication of Miss Hepburn's autobiography ME, from inception, publication, and publicity events with domestic and European publishers working directly with Sonny Mehta and the Knopf staff.
For a short while Ms. Powers worked for a small publishing firm editing, rewriting and processing articles and manuscripts. With Heywood Hale Broun, she compiled and prepared his articles for a book. Other writing clients have included Arthur Miller, Jules Styne, Alan Jay Lerner, Arthur Laurents, Mary Henderson, Dan Greenburg, Suzanne O'Malley.
While pursuing her other talents, Ms. Powers has written HOW BROADWAY WORKS: Building and Running a Show From the People Who Make It Happen. The book was published Deember 15th, 2023 and is available for on Barnes & Noble and Amazon.
